Local Motors Strti

World’s first 3D printed car created in only 44 hours

Is this the future of car industry ?

During the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago, Arizona-based Local Motors created the world’s first electric 3D printed car in only 44 hours. It is hard to believe but hopefully true !

Named Strati, this new era car is only composed of 40 components whereas today’s cars are made out of thousands of parts.

The entire body, seats and windshield are printed by a 3D printer and are made out of carbon fiber and plastic.

There is obviously a tremendous potential for 3D printing in the car industry, as it is fast, cheaper, and way better for the environment. Indeed, distribution costs and waste are reduced & recycling is increased.

Local Motors is currently doing researches to speed up the speed rate while maintaining speed quality, with the goal of producing a future model in less than a day !
